Cardboard is the key material for organizing shipments and keeping packages safe in the warehouse: this is why it must be resistant and of high quality.
How to make cardboard more resistant. A lack of robustness is often synonymous with logistical and sales issues, leading to inconvenience and a lack of quality when supporting fragile, delicate, and sometimes heavy goods. Let’s discover how to make cardboard more resistant.

Quality and Safety
Regardless of your goal, the cardboard box must always be made and chosen according to the product it will contain. This ensures shipping without logistical problems, avoiding falls, impacts, and crushing. The ideal choice is a double-wall cardboard model: stronger shipping boxes characterized by a higher grammage. Choosing unsuitable paper compositions means ending up with low-quality packaging and potentially damaged goods. Unexpected events, or even humidity, could damage the product inside the box.
Secondly, it is necessary to fill the content of the box without leaving empty spaces, preventing the goods from moving and, at the same time, supporting potential pressure from above or lateral impacts. To do this, use specific packaging materials such as:
- Polystyrene
- Foam rubber
- Wrapping paper
- Bubble wrap
The goal is to create a buffer between the box wall and the goods inside, perhaps adding internal structures to lock and immobilize them. This method guarantees greater resistance with a sort of internal skeleton: there are indeed honeycomb cardboard bases or cylinders (also called partitions) to be added to American boxes to secure very fragile objects like glass bottles. Another way to ensure greater safety is to print universal symbols to communicate the fragile nature of the content to handlers.
Closure and packaging
To make the cardboard even more resistant, in addition to tape, it is possible to use plastic straps to reinforce and keep the sides of the box compact, along with edge protectors to prevent the corners from being ruined: there are different shapes and models in rigid plastic, foam rubber, or cardboard. If, however, you need to ship bulky packages for long trips, you can opt for pallet packaging: standard wooden pallets are the perfect base to ensure that packages remain united on a single structure.
You can also add stretch film to this structure with a dedicated machine, enclosing the items into a single element, protecting them from both rain and shocks/movements due to the lightness of the package.
