New regulations, new requirements

On March 8, the extension period granted by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty, and Forestry to adapt wine and aromatized wine product labels to European standards came to an end. As of today, all wine bottles on the market in Italy must provide:

  • List of ingredients;
  • Indication of the presence of allergens (such as sulfites);
  • Nutrition declaration;

This information, essential for safety and transparency toward the consumer, requires a larger footprint on labels than in the past. Traditionally, this would have involved a significant redesign of label graphics, increasing costs and complicating information management.

The digital labeling of the future

Digital technology thus revolutionizes the approach to wine labeling, offering an innovative and practical digital solution. For example, by inserting a QR code on the label, the physical space required for information is reduced, directing consumers to a web portal where all details relating to the single bottle are available and constantly updated.
